Am i being stupid?

talking to my unborn puppies?
i mean people talk to their unborn children, right? so talking to my unborn puppies isnt so unusual is it?
im telling them to 'run fast' and 'get that rabbit'

is that too weird?


oh and an update on exciting kyle, he has now had two wins, plus another of scotexciteds puppies had a win, so thats 3 wins for scotty YAY!

please leave comments saying if talking to puppies is weird?

scan results

berlin just had her scan, it was an ultra sound the same as humans. she stood there while the vet put get on her tummy and did the scan. the results showed 4 or 5 puppies however they say that ultrasounds normally show less puppies than there actually are and they recommend adding 20% more puppies for the ones they cant see, due to gas and puppies hiding in the ribs etc

scotexcited has his first puppy racing tommorrow at addington "exciting kyle" wishing the trainer and dog best of luck will be an exciting race.

morning sickness

Berlin has been off her food the last few mornings which is like morning sickness in dogs, so a very good sign. her scan is later on today so we can tell how many puppies she willl be having.

Berlin has been doing lots of running so i have decided to take her in for a scan. a scan can be done at 28 days so she will go in next week.
the scan should tell us if she is in pup and give us an idea into how many puppies she will be having.

Also Spider broke his toe running around yesterday so he is sulking doint the whole 'it hurts so much, give me more hugs' thing. its strapped and willl be better in no time ( like his other 3 toes)

Scotexcited (scotty) is the stud dog berlin went to, he is an amazing dog with a great personality, great looks, great racing career and a fantastic pedigree.
Scotty had 75 starts for 24 wins and 18 placings. He won over $64,000 in stake money.

Scotty is super cuddly with striking markings. He does not have any puppies racing yet but has young dogs on the trialing tracks running amazing times. i will post updates on his dogs when they make it to the races.

berlin had 3 matings last week and...
for those that dont know ( i didnt either) you must restrict the amount of exercise the dog does for 10 days after mating. Im not to sure why exactly but its a higher chance of loosing the puppies.
well berlins not too happy about not being able to run, we had her out on the lead this evening while the motor bike was going, she was jumping all round the place and i had to keep saying to her. Stop running your killing our babies.
currently she is running around the house with a teddy. Hopefulll there will still be some babies in her.

first vet trip

the first trip to the vet was 8 days into berlins season, we had to take her in to get progesterone tested, progesterone testing tells us when the bitch is ready to mate, they take a blood sample in the morning send it to a lab and you get the results in the evening. Berlins result came back as being 1.2 and you want to start mating when the progesterone reaches 4.

introduction

For those who dont know me my name is Ashley Bradshaw and i work for a greyhound trainer from which i got two greyhounds (spider and berlin). First i got berlin a dog which was too old for the trainer to want to bother with (she was 3 ) i offered to try train her, she was named twirly berly and she had 16 starts for 6 placings. Unfortunatley she never won but we believe she would of had some wins if she started younger and didnt have a series of medical events (cuts on legs from fence, toe nail broke, bites on neck, and came into season) We then took on spider, Berlin and spider retired to become Greyhound As Pets supporters and helped in finding homes for other greyhounds. Last wednesday Berlin came into to season and i decided to try my hand at whelping, rearing and racing a litter of my own puppies.
i will make regular posts on this blog on how things are going so that people that own retired greyhounds can see what it took to get their greys to the track and to become pets.
